Frequently Asked Questions

I have some experience in archery but it’s been a while. What should I do?

For people with (some) experience in archery we recommend doing a skill assessment. A skill assessment is done by one of our trainers and they will assess whether you can shoot safely on your own. This also applies to people who have done a beginners course at a different archery association.

If you pass you can immediately become a member and otherwise you are referred to our beginners courses.

You can plan a skill assessment by e-mailing us at wac@wur.nl, subject: Skill assessment ‘name’.

Please do not show up without an appointment at our club.

I don’t have sports rights, can I still join the beginners courses?

The short answer: No, the yearly sports rights are mandatory for becoming a member of our association and our beginners courses.

However, in some cases we may be able to make an exception although this will have to be discussed within the board of the WAC. Please shoot us an e-mail at wac@wur.nl if you have any questions.

When are the beginners courses given?

The beginners courses are given on Wednesdays in the evenings in each period except for period 4.

What happens if I can’t sign up for a beginners course?

The beginners courses are in high demand so we cannot guarantee a spot for everyone. If you are unable to sign up because the course of your preference has already been filled you will be put on our waiting list. Throughout the year, if spots open up we will contact the people on the waiting list to fill it up. If you are still on the waiting list after the next AID your previous position will not be retained, to make it fair for the incoming people from the AID, and you will start again.

How much does a membership cost?

The membership fee is paid per half year. It is €15/half year, so for a whole year it is €30.

If you are also renting material from the WAC an additional €15/half year is charged. In total that comes down to €60 per year for membership and material rental.

There’s a deer in your logo, but you don’t shoot at animals do you?

Although archery has its roots in hunting, the WAC does not shoot at live animals. There are special targets in the shape of animals for 3D shooting. The deer is part of our logo because we like deer.
